Overview
What Is Elleste Solo?
Elleste Solo is an oestrogen-only hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in tablet form. It is prescribed to women to treat symptoms of menopause, the stage when oestrogen levels in the female body levels drop and hormonal changes take place. The treatment can be effective in relieving menopausal symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.
The tablets come in 1 mg and 2 mg strengths and contain the active ingredient estradiol, a form of the major female sex hormone oestrogen. Inactive ingredients include lactose monohydrate, maize starch, povidone and talc.
What Is Elleste Solo Used For?
Elleste Solo tablets are used to relieve menopause symptoms. They work by restoring your oestrogen levels, which drop during menopause. This can relieve many menopause symptoms and allow you to get on with your daily activities without discomfort. The tablets can also be prescribed as a second-line option for preventing osteoporosis (a condition that weakens bones) after menopause.
Elleste Solo and Alcohol
Drinking moderate amounts of alcohol can increase oestrogen levels in women receiving HRT. This could potentially increase their risk of adverse side effects. The association of alcohol with raised oestrogen levels mean that if you drink alcohol while receiving HRT, you could be at a higher risk of cancer than if just drinking alcohol or receiving HRT alone. Research shows that women taking HRT who have one to two alcoholic drinks daily are three times more likely to develop breast cancer.
If you drink alcohol, talk to your doctor before starting a new HRT treatment. They will advise you on what may interact with the treatment.
Progynova vs Elleste Solo
Elleste Solo and Progynova are both branded versions of the generic estradiol, a form of oestrogen. Both are HRT treatments which are prescribed to women going through menopause to relieve symptoms such as hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness. Progynova and Elleste Solo come in the same 1 mg and 2 mg doses and are taken daily. Both treatments can be used alongside the progesterone hormone to protect against the thickening of the lining of the womb, which using an oestrogen-only HRT such as Progynova or Elleste Solo may cause.
Climaval vs Elleste Solo
Elleste Solo and Climaval are both oestrogen-only HRT treatments. They are branded versions of the generic estradiol and contain the same active ingredient; estradiol. Climaval and Elleste Solo can both be effective in reducing the same menopausal symptoms, including hot flushes, night sweats and vaginal dryness.
Both of the treatments come in 1 mg and 2 mg doses. They are taken daily and have a maximum dose of 2 mg. If your womb is still intact, you may be prescribed Climaval or Elleste Solo alongside the progesterone hormone to protect against the womb’s lining thickening, which can be a side effect of taking an oestrogen-only HRT treatment such as Climaval or Elleste Solo.

Directions
Elleste Solo Dosage
Elleste Solo comes in 1 mg and 2 mg tablets. You would normally start HRT with the 1 mg dose, taking one tablet per day at the same time. If a 1 mg dose has proven ineffective in relieving your menopausal symptoms, your doctor may increase your dosage to 2 mg per day. The maximum dose of Elleste Solo is 2 mg. You may also be given a higher dosage of Elleste Solo tablets if you are taking the treatment for osteoporosis. When determining your dosage, your doctor will take into account factors such as your medical history and severity of symptoms.
How Long Does Elleste Solo Take To Work?
You should begin to feel relief in your menopausal symptoms within a few weeks of starting to take Elleste Solo tablets. In general, you will use HRT treatments such as Elleste Solo for as short a time as required to reduce your symptoms as your body adjusts to the hormonal changes of menopause.
Take Elleste Solo tablets as prescribed by your doctor, not stopping unless you are advised to do so. If you stop your HRT treatment in the middle of a cycle, you can cause your hormone levels to drop significantly; this can lead to a recurrence of menopause symptoms.
How to Take Elleste Solo
The tablets are swallowed whole with a drink of water. They can be taken with or without food, as whether you eat before or after taking Elleste Solo will not change how the treatment works. You should never break, crush or chew Elleste Solo tablets. If you forget to take a tablet, simply take the dose you have missed as soon as you remember. If 12 hours have passed since you were meant to take the dose, just skip it and take your next dose as normal. Don’t take a double dose to make up for the missed dose.
