Overview

Lubricating and Soothing Eye Drops

Dry, tired or irritated eyes are extremely common, often caused by prolonged screen use, air conditioning, central heating, contact lens wear, wind exposure or the natural ageing process. Lubricating eye drops work by supplementing the eye's natural tear film to relieve dryness, irritation and discomfort.

Cloud Pharmacy stocks a range of lubricating eye drops from trusted brands, including preservative-free options for frequent use and for contact lens wearers. All products are dispensed by our GPhC-registered pharmacy team.

Who Are These Products For?

  • Dry, gritty, burning or tired eyes caused by screen use, air conditioning or heating
  • Contact lens wearers experiencing dryness or discomfort
  • Mild eye irritation from wind, dust or environmental factors
  • Sore eyes needing soothing relief

If you experience sudden vision loss, severe eye pain, flashing lights or new floaters, seek urgent medical attention.

Important Safety Information

  • Do not use eye drops past their expiry date or beyond 28 days after opening (for multi-dose bottles)
  • Remove contact lenses before using eye drops unless the product is specifically labelled as safe for use with lenses
  • If symptoms persist or worsen, see your optician or GP

Available Treatments

Hylo-Tear Preservative Free Eye Drops (Sodium Hyaluronate 0.1%)

Hylo-Tear contains sodium hyaluronate, which provides long-lasting moisture by forming a stable, lubricating film on the eye surface. The preservative-free formula makes it suitable for frequent use and for contact lens wearers.

Hylo-Forte Preservative Free Eye Drops (Sodium Hyaluronate 0.2%)

Hylo-Forte contains a higher concentration of sodium hyaluronate for more intensive lubrication. It is suited to moderate to severe dry eyes or for people who need more substantial moisture support.

Hypromellose Eye Drops 0.3%

Hypromellose is a widely used lubricating eye drop that provides effective relief from dry eye symptoms at an affordable price point. Also available as preservative-free single-dose units (Lumecare Hypromellose).

Celluvisc 1% Eye Drops

Celluvisc contains carmellose sodium in preservative-free single-dose units. It provides soothing relief for dry eyes and is suitable for people who are sensitive to preservatives.

Systane Ultra Lubricant Eye Drops

Systane Ultra provides extended protection by forming a gel-like matrix on the eye surface that offers longer-lasting comfort between applications.

FAQ

How often can I use lubricating eye drops?

Preservative-free eye drops (such as Hylo-Tear and Celluvisc) can be used as often as needed. Eye drops containing preservatives should generally not be used more than four to six times daily, as the preservatives can cause irritation with frequent use. If you need drops more than six times daily, switch to a preservative-free option.

Can I use eye drops while wearing contact lenses?

Most eye drops require you to remove contact lenses before application and wait at least 15 minutes before reinserting them. Some preservative-free drops are specifically designed for use with contact lenses - check the product label or ask our pharmacy team.
