Overview
Treatments for Irritable Bowel Syndrome
Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is a common, long-term condition affecting the digestive system. It causes symptoms including stomach cramps, bloating, diarrhoea and constipation, which tend to come and go in episodes. While there is no cure for IBS, symptoms can often be managed effectively with over-the-counter treatments, dietary adjustments and lifestyle changes.
Important Safety Information
Buscopan should be used with caution in people with glaucoma, an enlarged prostate, or certain heart conditions
Peppermint oil capsules (Colpermin) should be swallowed whole, not chewed, as this can cause heartburn
If symptoms are severe, persistent, or accompanied by blood in the stool, unexplained weight loss, or a change in bowel habits in someone over 50, see your GP
