Overview
What Is Zindaclin?
Zindaclin gel is a topical acne treatment. It is the branded version of the generic clindamycin.
The active ingredient of Zindaclin is clindamycin phosphate. Zindaclin gel contains 1% clindamycin, and 1 g of the gel contains around 0.2 g alcohol. Zindaclin gel also includes the inactive ingredients ethanol, propylene glycol, hydroxyethylcellulose, zinc acetate, and sodium hydroxide.
What Is Zindaclin Gel Used For?
Zindaclin gel is mainly used to treat mild to moderate acne (the common name for acne vulgaris). Acne is a skin condition that is caused by hair follicles becoming blocked. If you have acne, you may get whiteheads, blackheads or pimples.
When the hormone levels in your body change, the skin can produce excess oil known as sebum. This excess sebum, and the bacteria which feeds off it, can block up the pores and result in spots developing. Acne is usually seen on the face, but can also develop on the chest, back, and other parts of the body. While acne can go away on its own, treating it can reduce existing spots, alleviate soreness, and prevent new spots.
You can get acne at any age, but it is more common in teenagers. Around 95% of people from the ages of 11 to 30 will be affected by acne to some degree. In males, acne is most common from the ages of 16 to 19, whereas in females, it is most common in the age range of 14 to 17. In general, acne symptoms will improve as you get older. You may suffer from acne intermittently over the years, with outbreaks coming and going. When people reach the middle of their 20s, acne often goes away. Acne can persist into adult life, but only around 3% of adults over the age of 35 have acne.
How Does Zindaclin Work?
Zindaclin gel treats the spots caused by acne. Clindamycin, the active ingredient in Zindaclin, is an antibiotic that works by reducing the number of bacteria on the skin. It belongs in the lincomycin antibiotics class of medications.
When applied, Zindaclin gel can eliminate bacteria, preventing the blockage of pores that causes new spots to appear. The treatment is effective in relieving acne symptoms, including redness, inflammation and itchy or irritated skin.
Clindamycin also comes in tablet form and can be administered by injection. It is used to treat various sorts of bacterial infections, such as lung infections, skin infections, blood infections, infections of the female reproductive organs, and infections of other internal organs.
Zindaclin Gel for Acne Scars
Zindaclin gel’s purpose is to eliminate bacteria and treat mild to moderate acne. Unfortunately, it is not a treatment for long-term acne scars, for which there are other treatments such as Skinoren and other home skincare products, soft tissue fillers, steroid injections and laser resurfacing.
While it isn’t a recognised treatment for acne scars, Zindaclin is a recommended first-line treatment for acne itself, with a proven ability to stop the growth of bacteria.
Zindaclin in Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
If you are pregnant, you should speak to your doctor or pharmacist before using Zindaclin gel.
You shouldn’t take Zindaclin while breastfeeding. Clindamycin, Zindaclin’s active ingredient, has the potential to cause adverse effects on the gastrointestinal flora of a breastfed infant. If you are breastfeeding, speak to your doctor or pharmacist, who may be able to recommend an alternate drug.
If you have taken Zindaclin while pregnant or breastfeeding, stop the treatment and speak to your doctor.
Zindaclin Gel Before and After
Zindaclin is considered a first-line treatment for acne because it destroys the bacteria that causes acne spots. Using it may cause less soreness of the skin than alternative acne treatments.
While some treatments can require application twice per day over several months, Zindaclin can be applied once per day before bed. It concentrates clindamycin in the skin so that it lasts for 24 hours. This makes it more convenient for many people, including women who wish to apply make-up in the morning without waiting for their acne treatment to soak in first.

How Long Does Zindaclin Take To Work?
You may not see the effects of Zindaclin gel quickly – the treatment can take a few weeks to improve your skin. The maximum effect of Zindaclin may only be seen after a few months. This is because it takes a while to control bacterial numbers, reduce inflammation, and enable the skin to heal.
Continue using Zindaclin gel until told to stop the treatment by your doctor or pharmacist.
How to use Zindaclin Gel
Zindaclin gel can be prescribed by Cloud Pharmacy for the treatment of acne for adults over the age of 18 years.
Zindaclin gel is applied to the surface of the skin once per day. You should remove the tube cap and squeeze a small amount of gel onto your finger, spreading a thin layer over the area of skin where spots appear. Note that there is no need to use a thick layer, as this won’t make the treatment work any quicker, or more effectively. Replace the cap after each time you use Zindaclin gel.
You shouldn’t use Zindaclin on areas of your skin where spots don’t appear, as it is a treatment for acne, rather than a preventative measure. If you get any Zindaclin in the eyes, mouth or nose, wash them with water immediately. You should also wash off the gel if you apply too much by mistake. If you forget a dose of Zindaclin, simply apply it when you remember. If it’s nearly time for the next dose, skip the missed dose and continue your treatment as normal.
If you are currently taking another medication, or have recently stopped taking another medication, you should talk with your doctor or pharmacist before using the treatment.
Acne treatments can take several weeks to start to noticeably improve the condition of your skin and so you are likely to be prescribed Zindaclin Gel for several months. You may not see the full effect of using Zindaclin for 4 - 8 weeks. You need to continue using the treatment for the whole course that you have been prescribed otherwise you risk the acne quickly returning - this is normally 3 - 6 months without a break.
Before using Zindaclin Gel Please make sure you have read the Patient Information Leaflet.
