Medication features

Losec MUPS is the branded version of Omeprazole. This particular brand comes in both the full strength and half strength of Omeprazole. It is a medicine that belongs to the family of drugs known as proton pump inhibitors (PPI). It is used to treat conditions such as acid reflux, gastro-oesophageal reflux disease (GORD) and heartburn. It works by preventing certain cells within the stomach lining from producing acid. This leads to a decrease in acid refluxing up towards the respiratory tract and causing symptoms associated with all the conditions above. It is recommended that the patient take a daily dose regularly for therapeutic results to be at its most effective.

What is Losec?

Losec contains the active ingredient Omeprazole. It is a medicine in the proton pump inhibitor class, reducing the amount of acid produced by the stomach.

  • Too much acid in the stomach due to a growth in the pancreas
  • Ulcers infected with Helicobacter pylori bacteria
  • Gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD
  • Losec is used to treat the following conditions in adult patients:
  • Ulcers in the upper part of the intestine or stomach
  • Ulcers caused by NSAIDs

How does Losec work?

Losec is a proton-pump inhibitor. It works by decreasing the production of acid in the stomach in order to provide relief for GERD symptoms and allow healing to take place. The decrease in the production of stomach acid does not stop food from being digested in the normal way.

NOTE: This medication should be taken for a maximum of 4-5 days. If symptoms persist after this time, please see your GP, as the symptoms require investigation. Acid reflux medications can mask the symptoms of more serious conditions, such as esophageal cancer.

What are the benefits of taking Losec?

Losec is effective in decreasing the production of acid in the stomach. It results in the relief of symptoms and allow healing to take place.

Losec has been proven to be an effective treatment for different conditions characterized by too much acid in the stomach.
