Overview
What is Migraitan and how does it work?
Migraitan 50mg tablets, containing Sumatriptan, provide effective relief from migraines in adults. This medication, part of the triptans or serotonin agonists group, is intended for use at the onset of a migraine.
The active ingredient, Sumatriptan, targets specific migraine symptoms like nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light and sound. It works by narrowing brain blood vessels, reducing swelling and relieving headache, noise and light sensitivity, and nausea.
Migraitan is not a general pain reliever and is specifically for migraine relief. It's best taken at the start of a migraine but is still effective if taken after the headache begins.
The drug is short-acting; in some cases, headaches may recur a few hours later; additional doses can be taken but should not exceed 300mg in 24 hours. Relief usually occurs within 30 to 60 minutes. Note that Migraitan is not for migraine prevention and should not be overused.
Migraitan migraine medication alternatives
While Migraitan tablets are an effective solution for migraine relief, exploring alternative medications can be beneficial, particularly for those with specific health conditions or preferences.
As part of your online consultation with a pharmacist from Cloud Pharmacy, you may receive recommendations for different options, including:
- Zolmitriptan Tablets: Effective for managing acute migraine headaches, Zolmitriptan tablets address the immediate symptoms but do not prevent future migraines
- Rizatriptan Tablets: Designed to relieve migraines along with associated symptoms like pain, nausea, and visual issues. Check our guide for a detailed comparison between Rizatriptan and Migraitan
- Almotriptan Tablets: Almotriptan helps alleviate migraine headaches, light sensitivity, and nausea by constricting brain blood vessels
- Zomig Tablets 2.5mg: With Zolmitriptan as its active ingredient, this medication effectively treats migraines, with or without aura
- Sumatriptan Tablets: A widely favoured option for migraine pain relief, Sumatriptan is the generic form of Imigran and is well-recognized in the market
