Test To Release COVID-19

In each one of your coronavirus home testing kits you will find one swab, the same swab used first for your throat and then for your nose. You will collect samples from both areas and with the enclosed pre-paid envelope, you will send your sample to our UK government accredited laboratory.

Your sample will be analysed using Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) testing. PCR testing is a very sensitive type of test that is used in the lab to allow for the viewing of small molecules clearly. The PCR test will allow the scientists to look for a sample of what the virus is made up of (RNA) and therefore determine whether or not the virus exists in the sample provided. Since the virus can exist in the body for a long period of time (5-14 days) prior to the patient showing symptoms, the PCR covid-19 home testing kit will be able to detect the Viral RNA prior to you experiencing the symptoms, hopefully giving you enough time to self-isolate (hyperlink blog).

If you have been in contact with anyone who may have the virus; if you have, or are experiencing any of the symptoms associated with Covid-19 or if you have been in a country with a high rate of people infected, then you are a suitable candidate for testing. The kit can be used in the comfort of your own home and sent out using the pre-paid envelope provided.

Once the laboratory has processed your sample, you will receive an email and a text to let you know of your results. You can do this by adding your phone number to the enclosed documents so the lab can contact you directly. The test does not detect if you have had the virus, it only tells you if you have it. Once the lab has received your results, it will take 2-3 working days until you will get your results back.
