These Niquitin patches, which contain nicotine, the substance that causes cigarette addiction, are stage 2 patches that should be used after using stage 1 patches for a period of time in a process known as Nicotine Replacement Therapy (NRT). In addition to being a type of NRT, these patches can be used as a substitute for cigarettes when smoking is difficult or impossible.
