What is Rozex and What is it Used For?
Rozex is a branded topical medicine that contains the active ingredient metronidazole, it is used to treat a common medical condition called rosacea. Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes blushing or flushing and visible blood vessels in your face. It may also produce small, pus-filled bumps. These signs and symptoms may flare up for weeks to months and then go away for a while. Rosacea can be mistaken for acne and other skin problems.
How Do I Use Rozex?
ince Rozex is a prescription only medication, it should only be used under the instructions of your prescriber. For best results, rozex should be used in the morning and evenings. Rozex cream or gel should be applied to the affected areas of the face twice a day, morning and evening. Repeat courses may sometimes be needed, or your doctor may recommend using it on a long-term or intermittent basis. Follow the instructions given by your doctor. It is important to Wash and dry the face before applying Rozex. When you use Rozex, apply the cream or gel in a thin layer, taking care to avoid the eyes, and rub it in well. Wash your hands after application. If you forget an application don't worry, just carry on as before. Avoid exposing the treated areas of skin to strong sunlight or sunlamps because this can make the treatment less effective.
If your skin becomes irritated while using the cream or gel you should use it less frequently or stop using it for a few days. If irritation persists, consult your doctor. Similarly, if you have been using Rozex for a few months and your rosacea hasn't fully cleared up, it might be wise to consult with your GP for further treatment options.
Whilst rozex is a great medication used to clear your acne, it is worth noting that it also has the potential for side effects as well. Thankfully, these are very minor and tend to be self limiting. Just because a medication has the potential for side effects, it does not mean there is a guarantee you will experience these.
Common side effects include:
- Skin discomfort such as burning or stinging
- Skin dryness, redness or itching
- Worsening of rosacea- See your GP or pharmacist if this is the case
Slightly more rare side effects include:
- Tingling and numbnes
- Watery eyes if applied too closely to the eyes
- Metallic taste
- Nausea
Can Anyone Use Rozex?
Rozex gel is not recommended for children or anyone under the age of 18 because of its potency. People who are on a blood-thinning medication (anticoagulants) such as warfarin should not use Rozex. This is because of the small chance it may interfere with this medication. Patients who suffer from blood disorders are also advised not to use Rozex.
If you are pregnant or breastfeeding, it may not be advisable to use Rozex gel unless your doctor considers it essential. Metronidazole, which is the active ingredient in Rozex, enters the bloodstream in small amounts after being applied. Although these amounts are extremely low, it is unknown how this might affect pregnancy or a baby during breastfeeding. Since its safety during pregnancy has not been fully established yet, it is recommended that expecting mothers do not use. If you are planning on having a baby, it is important to inform the GP ahead of your consultation.
